I. 🏔 Structure: The Chiastic Arc If Psalm 127 is indeed the center (the 8th of 15 psalms), then the collection forms a chiastic structure (A–B–C–D–E–F–G–H–G′–F′–E′–D′–C′–B′–A′). Thematically, this would mean that the psalms mirror each other around
Let’s explore fasting in the Ancient Near East (ANE) and Second Temple Period (STP) — emphasizing how it related not only to religious devotion but to social belonging, family identity, and communal participation. I.🏺 1. Fasting in the Ancient Near East (ANE) a. Broader Context Across the ANE (including Mesopotamia,
I. 🌤️ Beyond the Metaphor: When Desire Finds Its Home “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.”— Matthew 22:30 🕊️ The Eternal Perspective Heaven will be a place where every need for belonging is met — not through marriage
I. 📖 Hosea 6:7 – Text and Translation “But like Adam, they transgressed the covenant; there they dealt faithlessly with Me.” Hebrew: * ke’ādām – “like Adam” (could mean “like a man” or “like humanity” or “like Adam” the person). * ‘avru berit – “they transgressed the covenant.” * shām bagdū bī – “there they dealt
I. 🕊 Proverbs 31:8–9 – The Call to Speak for the Voiceless “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” This passage—advice from a mother to a
I. 🧒 Prayer as a Child’s Request When Jesus teaches us to pray beginning with “Our Father” (Matthew 6:9), He redefines prayer from a transaction to a relationship. A child’s request to their parent assumes: * Trust in the parent’s character (“You are good”), * Dependence on their care
I. 💖 1. The Posture of the Heart Jeremiah 29:13 and Proverbs 11:27 share a striking thematic thread about the direction of desire and the integrity of pursuit. Both verses emphasize intentionality of seeking. * Jeremiah 29:13 addresses exiles in Babylon, promising that wholehearted seeking of God (not merely
I. 1️⃣ Jeremiah 6 — Refining in Vain In Jeremiah 6:27–30, God appoints the prophet as a “tester of metals” to examine His people: “The bellows blow fiercely… in vain the refining goes on, for the wicked are not removed. They are called rejected silver, because the Lord has
I. The Last Five Kings of Judah Jeremiah’s prophetic ministry spanned a turbulent era in Judah’s history. Looking at how it overlapped with Josiah and the kings who didn't listen will put exile and the events that led to it make more sense. 🏛️ 1. Josiah (640–
After reading psalm 140, I wondered at what point in David's life it pointed to. After David's son Amnon rapes his own half-sister, Tamar, and King David does nothing for so long that it becomes unbearable for her full-blooded brother, Absolom, we have something
I. 🩸 I. New Covenant Context: God’s Initiative Every covenant in Scripture is initiated by God. The New Covenant is no exception. “This is My covenant with them when I take away their sins.” — Romans 11:27, cf. Jeremiah 31:31–34 Unlike previous covenants, which depended on Israel’s
I. 🕊 1. Psalm 136 — The Cosmic Chorus of Covenant Love Psalm 136 is liturgical—a priestly call and congregational response. Its repetition (26 times) of “for His steadfast love endures forever” is not redundancy but reinforcement. Each act of creation and redemption—from forming the heavens to delivering Israel from
