🧥👗Humanity Sandwich: God in Us and Upon Us

🧥 Isaiah 61:10 – Clothed with Salvation and Righteousness

"I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels."
— Isaiah 61:10

This verse is a proclamation of joyful identity in God. The clothing imagery is personal and covenantal:

  • Garments of salvation speak of God's rescue and adoption.
  • Robe of righteousness signifies divine covering and moral restoration.
  • It’s His righteousness, not ours (cf. Philippians 3:9).
  • The clothing is bridal—evoking covenant, beauty, and intimacy.

🧥This is more than outward appearance; it is being clothed in the nature of God Himself.👗

🛡 Ephesians 6:10–18 – The Armor of God

"Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil."
— Ephesians 6:11

Each element of the armor corresponds to a divine attribute or identity that God Himself embodies:

Piece of ArmorAttributeConnection to God Himself
Belt of TruthGod's Word is truth (John 17:17)Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6)
Breastplate of RighteousnessGod's righteousness given to us (2 Cor 5:21)Isaiah 59:17 – “He put on righteousness as a breastplate”
Shoes of the GospelGospel = God's peace and powerIsaiah 52:7 – beautiful feet proclaiming good news
Shield of FaithOur trust in God's naturePsalm 18:2 – “The Lord is my shield”
Helmet of SalvationGod is our SaviorIsaiah 59:17 again – “and a helmet of salvation on His head”
Sword of the Spirit (Word)Word = God's breath/presenceHebrews 4:12; John 1:1 – The Word was God

Paul likely had Isaiah 59:17 in mind, where God Himself puts on armor to intervene in justice and salvation:

“He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head…”

So, in Ephesians, Paul is not telling us to put on Roman armor with spiritual labels—but to put on God Himself as our defense, as our identity.

👗 Clothed with Christ

"For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ."
— Galatians 3:27

To "put on Christ" is the same idea. Christ becomes:

  • Our righteousness
  • Our armor
  • Our identity
  • Our covering

This clothing is covenantal—just like robes and armor in Isaiah and Ephesians.

🧠 Final Thought: More Than Protected—Transformed

This isn't just about being protected from spiritual attack—it's about being transformed into God's likeness:

  • Not only hiding in Christ but wearing Him.
  • Not only covered by righteousness, but made righteous in Him.
  • Not only using the sword of the Spirit, but speaking as His body.

This is incarnation theology for the Church: God in us and upon us—wrapped in His very being.
